Soils For Your Yard and Foundation

We have all seen them...large cracks in the yard which look as though a small child could almost fall in.  The absence of rain and the nasty clay soil here in North Texas are the culprits.  That time of year has come around again where soil is needed to fill them up.  Regular home maintenance typically calls for soil to be placed around the foundation of your home as well.  Let's check out some options.

The information below is based upon the products our company sells.  Also, keep in mind soils vary from place to place and as does climate and so forth.  Advice given here is referring to the North Texas area.

We mainly sell stone so our soils are very basic but do the trick.  There are currently 2 kinds we have in stock on the yard which are typically used for filling cracks and/or holes in a yard as well as putting around the foundation.

CUSHION SAND

This is our most basic and least expensive soil/sand.  Nothing too special about it but does get the job done!  Cushion Sand can be used for holes and cracks in the yard as well as putting around a foundation.  It is commonly used for leveling before concrete is poured as well.  It does have some bits of clay in it as well as weed seeds.  So if you are picky about your yard, this one may not be the choice for you.

PREMIUM SOIL

Sandy loam mixed with compost makes up our Premium Soil.  This soil is great for holes and cracks in the yard as well as putting around foundations.  It is also a great soil for flower beds.  No need to till - you can plant directly into it.  It is a little bit more $ but depending on the quantity needed for your project, it is a great choice.
